LYMAN, SC-- Robert Rabbi Dempsey, 86, widower of Iris Dempsey, of Montgomery, AL, formerly of 119 Lawrence Street, Lyman SC, died Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Russell Medical Center, Alexander City, AL.
A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Robert R. Dempsey and Mary Louise Griffin Dempsey, he was a World War II Veteran and a retired employee of W.R. Grace Simpsonville Plant, Simpsonville SC. Mr. Dempsey was a member of the Ridgewood Baptist Church.
Surviving are his son, Robert R. Dempsey, Jr. and his wife Martha B. Dempsey of Montgomery AL; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Perry Bridwell of Greer; a sister-in-law, Libby Dempsey of Taylors; a sister-in-law, Sonia Cook of Duncan; two granddaughters, Hannah E. Jones of Charleston, SC; Heather M. Dempsey of Montgomery, AL; two great-granddaughters, Hadley Jones and Kaitlyn Rogers; and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dempsey was predeceased by one sister, Grace Dempsey; one brother, Paul Dempsey and one brother-in-law, Frank Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, at the Wood Mortuary conducted by the Rev Billy Vaughn. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 -10:45 a.m. Thursday at Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home of one of his nieces and her husband, Sandra and Don Dillard, Greenville, SC.
