CLEVELAND, MS-- Mr. Ruben Smith, 84, of 804 Beamon Drive, passed away at his residence. Ruben was the son of the late Doc Smith and Pearlie Grimes Smith of Hollandale, MS. Ruben was the last surviving sibling of ten children. Ruben accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 8 years old and was baptized at the New Bethel Baptist Church of Clevland, MS.
Ruben was married to the late Frances Alice Richardson for over 56 years after marrying in October 1955.
Ruben was a faithful member of United Missionary Baptist Church and served in the deacon ministry for over 50 years. Ruben served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Ruben leaves to cherish his precious memories: his three daughters, Edith Carol Smith (Gregory) of Southaven, MS, and Norma D. Petway of Durham, NC, Jacklyne Faye Hubbard of Virgina Beach, VA; three sons, Ruben Smith, Jr. (Patricia) of Cleveland, MS, Glenn D. Smith (Lawanda) of Spartanburg, SC, and Bishop Keith C. Smith (Gytanna) of Spartanburg, SC; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Wells (Sherman) of Chicago, IL; 26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family to receive friends Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 4 PM until 6 PM at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church, 570 Magnolia Street, Spartanburg, SC. Final services will be held at 11 AM Saturday¸ December 22, 2012 at United Missionary Baptist Church, 1101 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Bishop Keith C. Smith will officiate. Burial to follow in Delta Heights Memorial Cemetery.
First Family Funeral Home, Spartanburg, SC, is in charge of sacred arrangements.
