CHESNEE, SC-- Wilbur S. Burnett, April 27, 1930 - December 18, 2013.
With joy and celebration, we announce that Wilbur S. Burnett has entered the gates of Heaven and is surrounded by God our Father and all the beloved family members who have gone before him. While our hearts will miss him terribly, we take comfort in knowing we will be together again one day. We honor Wilbur by remembering the Godly man he was and the legacy of love and family he leaves behind.
Wilbur was saved and baptized at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church at a very young age. After graduating from Boiling Springs High School in 1947, he attended Central Wesleyan College and later served in the U.S. Navy. He faithfully served God as an ordained pastor in the Wesleyan Church and Pilgrim Holiness Church of America. He served as the Outreach Ministry Director of Word of Faith Fellowship. In later years, at Bethel Assembly of God, Wilbur served as the Men's Ministry Chairman, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, and a Deacon Board member. He was passionate about supporting mission trips to build orphanages in the Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Guatemala and South Africa. He served Restoration Church as an Outreach Team Leader, Choir Member, and Bible Study Leader. Wilbur personally built and planted 3 churches in Spartanburg County and 2 in Cherokee County. He was heavily involved as a member of Full Gospel Businessmen's Association, Promise Keepers International, and he most recently attended Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Wilbur was the seventh son of John Curtis and Emilie Mayme Williams Burnett. He had eight brothers and three sisters and is survived by one brother; Mr. Manning Burnett and wife, Patsy of Chesnee. Wilbur is preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Sybil Bradshaw Burnett, his son Barry Burnett, grandson Rusty Mason, and granddaughter Shelby Burnett. He is the beloved husband of Mary Wolff Burnett for the past 11 glorious years. Loved and cherished "Daddy" of Debby B. Mason and husband, Ken of Boiling Springs; Wilbur Brad Burnett and wife ,Sharon of Woodruff; Mitzi Burnett Peeler and husband, Todd of Boiling Springs; and Todd Burnett and wife, Dana of Boiling Springs. Wilbur has been blessed with 11 grandchildren: Kristi Mason Farmer and husband Jason, Windi Mason Cooper and husband Billy, Jessica Mason Burgess and husband Tucker; Brantley and Tiffany Burnett; Holli Peeler West and her husband Cody, Karli and Macy Peeler; and Taylor, Coy, and Micah Burnett. Wilbur was blessed and highly favored to have 5 great grandchildren: Madeline and Mason Farmer; Evan, Brody and Ila Cooper. Through his marriage to Mary, Wilbur has lovingly "adopted" children including David and Debbie Wolff, Ray and Carole Reneau, Paul and Robina Wolff, Bob and Mary Lee Bolitho, Brett and Jo Ann Olivier, Dr Robert and Donna Wolff with an additional 20 adopted grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
A Gathering of Friends and Family of Wilbur Burnett will be on Sunday evening December 22, 2013 from 7 to 9pm at Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs. The funeral service will be on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11 am. Immediately after the funeral, an Interment prayer will be held graveside at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Due to the large family, friends and family will assemble at the homes of Mary Wolff Burnett at 921 RC Thompson Road in Chesnee and at the home of Debby B. Mason at 195 Songbird Lane in Inman, SC.
