Donald L. "Archie" Horton SPARTANBURG, SC-- Donald Lee Horton, 78, of Spartanburg, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born January 15, 1934, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Oliver Ore and Addie Sue Cochran Horton. "My gentle giant, country gentleman, humble servant, Christian brother, and true friend, Don Horton is with Jesus now. I will truly miss him." quoted by Pastor Danny Garrett. Mr. Horton was a member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church and was well known as "the man in the straw hat working in overalls" on the grounds at the church. He was formerly employed by Spartan Mills for over 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Searcy Horton; daughter, Cathy Davis and husband Rick of Boiling Springs, SC; son, Dennis Lee Horton and wife Amanda of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Heather Davis, Makayla Horton, Dylan Horton, and Matthew Davis; sisters, Corine Scoggins and husband Arthur of Green Creek, NC, Jean Sizemore and husband C. L. of Inman, SC; brothers, O. D. Horton and wife Doris of Cowpens, SC, James Horton and wife Louise of Fingerville, SC; and brother-in-law, Ralph Price of Lexington, SC. He was predeceased by his sister, Sue Price. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, by the Rev. Danny Garrett and the Rev. Ronnie Norris. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, 1301 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
