First Sergeant (1SG) Daniel Winn, Jr.
SPARTANBURG, SC-- First Sergeant (1SG) Daniel Winn, Jr., 75, of 511 Arkwright Dr., entered into eternal rest on May 17, 2012 in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. A native of Groesbeck, TX, he was the son of the late Daniel Winn, Sr. and Della Tatum Winn and Nona Taylor Winn, stepmother.
Dan was the beloved husband of Barbara Jean Whitener Winn; loving father of Toney Earl Means and Rodney Elliot Winn; grandfather of Conner Elliott Snead; great-grandfather of Jeremiah Smoots; step grandfather of Justin Brunson; brother of Edna Winn Benson of Austin, TX, and Edward "June" (Helen) Winn of Los Angeles, CA.
He was a member of Stephen Grove AME Zion Church and faithfully attended New Life Ministries Church.
He was retired U.S. Army after 25 years of service and veteran of the Korean War. Winn retired from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Dept. after 20 years of service.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home.
