SPARTANBURG, SC-- Homer Eugene Gause died in Spartanburg, SC, Friday, June 8, 2012. Born March 31, 1922, in Columbia, SC. He was a son of the late Jesse Franklin Gause and Modelle Spires Gause. After moving to Spartanburg in 1925, Homer began attending church services at the old Baptist Tabernacle on N. Church St. where the former Calvary Baptist Church was located. He had been a member of Calvary since 1931 - a total of 81 years. During his early years at Calvary, he was actively involved in youth programs, served as a deacon, usher, and Sunday School teacher.
A World War II veteran, Homer served in the North African Theater as an Aerial Engineer in the Air Transport Command. He retired from Southern Railway System after 42 years of service.
Homer was also active in community service, a charter member helping organize the Westview-Fairforest Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, serving 15 years as a dedicated volunteer.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eulalia Galloway Gause, a son Tim E. Gause, daughter in law, Gail Gause, grandson J. Grant Gause, granddaughter, J. Greer Gause, and one brother, Marvin H. Gause.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert F. Gause, Wilbur M. Gause, and Howard W. Gause; and sister, Sadelle Gause Parker.
Memorial services will be held at Eggers Funeral Home, Boiling Springs, SC, Sunday, June 10, at 3:30 pm with the Rev. Scott Linnerud officiating. Family members will receive family and friends at 2 pm.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Gause Family Cemetery located near Lynches River, Effingham, SC. (date to be determined later).
