Doris H. Prendergrast
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Mrs. Doris Mae Hutchins Prendergrast, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2012. She was born in Forsyth County on February 9, 1925, to the late Vallie Lee Hutchins. She was educated in Winston-Salem, NC, schools, God's Bible College (Cincinnati, OH) and Southern Wesleyan University (Central, SC). She became an accomplished musician in voice, piano, organ, and accordion. She was married for 64 years to the Reverend Richard Prendergrast, who predeceased her in 2004. She and her husband served together in ministry for 56 years at various churches in North Carolina and Ohio. Mrs. Prendergrast was especially active in developing children's ministries, directing mission projects and music programs.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Russell Ammen (Russ) of Boiling Springs, SC; granddaughter, Dr. Vanessa Mazzoli of Simpsonville, SC; grandson, Marc Ammen and wife Tammy, of Abingdon, VA.; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ammen, Spencer Ammen, and Alyssa Mazzoli. Her family, extended family, and friends will miss the unconditional love which she extended to them and everyone she met. But they rejoice in the knowledge that their loved one is safe now in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Shelby Missionary Methodist Church, 1402 Earl Road, Shelby, NC. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Church officiated by Rev. David Black and Rev. Lamar Hewitt. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, SC.
