Phebe Hebb Crosland
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Phebe Hebb Crosland, of Spartanburg, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, of cancer. She was born in West Palm Beach, FL, the elder child of Martha and Richard Hebb.
Surviving her is her husband, Andrew Crosland; son, Matthew Crosland; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Smith Crosland; and sister, Spence Hebb Hughes of Greenville. She has six grandchildren, Mae, Matthew, Isaac, Silas, Evie, and Miani Crosland.
Graduating from Greenville High School and Winthrop College, she took a job with the Spartanburg County Department of Social Services, where she worked until her retirement. During those 37 years, she was a social worker and a supervisor in the areas of both child and adult protective services.
Mrs. Crosland was active in the Episcopal Church of the Advent through the ECW, Altar Gild, the Lunch Bunch Circle, the Advent Shoppe, the Gild of St. Francis and St. Clare, and Making Connections at Mary H. Wright. An energetic community volunteer, she belonged to RSVP and served at St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic. She was a member of the P.E.O.
Throughout her work, her family life, and her retirement she made life better for others.
A memorial service, conducted by Rev. Charles J. Smith and Rev. Halcott R. Carter, will be held at the Church of the Advent on Thursday, June 21 at 2:00 pm. It will be followed by a visitation at the Advent and a committal service at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
