William H. Holder

BOILING SPRINGS, SC- William Herbert "Rock" Holder, 86, of Boiling Springs, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Born October 17, 1925, in Spartanburg, SC he was the son of the late James Herbert and Frances Elizabeth Holder.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Rachel; a daughter, Linda Lawson and husband Stan; two sons, William Holder and wife Carolyn and Keith Holder and wife Annette all of Boiling Springs; a sister, Jean Johnson of Spartanburg, seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Grant, Lillian Black, and Nancy West; and a brother, Rev. David Holder.
William graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1943. After graduation, he attended Wofford College until he was drafted into service in February 1944. A World War II US Army Veteran, William made his career working for over 37 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a charter member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church.
He was a great man who loved his wife and his family. He enjoyed all kind of sports and listening to the radio. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always liked to discuss religion with those who visited him. He let each of them know that he was a child of the living God.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Eggers Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Thomas Smith. Interment will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the New Beginnings UMC Building Fund, 210 Rainbow Lake Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
