David M. Shaver
ROEBUCK, SC-- David Melvin Shaver, 49, husband of Laurel Norton Shaver, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
David was born in Spartanburg, SC, a son of Brenda West Shaver and the late James E. Shaver. He was a firefighter for over 30 years. While serving in the Roebuck Fire Department, David rose to the rank of Lieutenant and received numerous awards, including the J.P. Huckaby Fire Fighter of the Year, awarded twice, once in 1998, and again in 2003. He also received the A.S. Bobo Officer of the Year award along with the Medal of Valor, both awarded in 2010. David was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon.
In addition to his mother and his wife, David is survived by two daughters, Amanda Shaver Steward (Craig) of Spartanburg and Melody Shaver Thomas (Brian) of Spartanburg; a grandson, Zachery Charles Steward; a brother, Rusty Shaver (Lisa) of Spartanburg; a sister, Joyce Pettit (Johnny) of Pauline and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel, officiated by the Reverend Jerry Ford. Burial will follow the service in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Jonesville.
Members of the Roebuck Fire District will serve as honorary escorts and pallbearers.
In remembrance of David, memorials may be made to the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church; PO Box 247, Pauline, SC 29374.
