BOILING SPRINGS, SC- Andrew Jackson (A. J.) Wingo, Sr., 89, originally from Campobello, SC, most recently of Wesley Court in Boiling Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
Born in Campobello, he was the son of the late Billie Caldwell and Sallie Durham Wingo. Mr. Wingo was married to the late Barbara G. Wingo of Gaffney. He was owner and operator of Allstate Exterminating for many years. After his retirement he was very active with the Disabled American Veterans, serving as State Commander for veterans in need. He served our Country in the U. S. Army as enlisted aide to General Douglas McArthur in Japan and was on board the USS Missouri when Japan signed unconditional surrender.
Surviving are his son and daughters and their families, Andrew J. (Drew) and Susan Wingo of Spartanburg; Ginger Wingo Reed of Columbia; and Pam and Eddie Johnson of Inman. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jon C. (Colee) Wingo, Summer Josey Yarborough (Brian), Laura Wingo, W. Marshall Reed, III, Clint E. Johnson, Robb C. (Halie) Johnson, and Ben Andrew Johnson; great grandchildren, C. J. Meetze, Wynn J. Meetze and Holden Wingo. His stepfamily including Eddie G. Gay of Anderson and Patty G. (Terry) Orr of Belton; and grandchildren, Marianne O. (Chris) Ayers and Lloyd Orr. He was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Willie B. Wingo, Lucille W. Barber and John E. Wingo. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wingo was a long time member of Midway Baptist Church of Gaffney and was a recent member of Gateway Baptist Church in Boiling Springs.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Ramsey officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Clint, Robb and Ben Johnson; Marshall Reed; Lloyd Orr; and Chris Ayers.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the exceptional and loving care provided by Wesley Court staff members.

The family will be at the home of Pam and Eddie Johnson, 216 Lakefront Road, Inman.
