Edwin Gowan
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Mr. Edwin "Ed" Ray Gowan, Sr., 77, of Spartanburg, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. Born March 21, 1936, in Spartanburg County, he was the loving husband to Diane Splawn Gowan for 48 years and the son of the late Curtis B. Gowan and Beulah Sentelle Gowan. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Furman University, was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church and was a Personnel Sergeant in the United States Army. Mr. Gowan will be most remembered for being a loving, kind and humble man.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Edwin Gowan, Jr. and his wife Dinah of Boca Raton, FL; one brother, Bob Gowan and his wife Louise of Inman; three sisters, Sue Nation and her husband Fred, Linda McCombs, and Dhrama Carson and her husband C.C. all of Inman; two grandchildren, Kegan Ray Gowan and Kendall Diane Gowan who were the love of his life; one sister-in-law, Sandra Powell and her husband JD of Spartanburg; one brother-in-law, Darrell and his wife Sandy Splawn of Campobello, and by his beloved yorkie, Bentley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Carl Gowan; and one sister, Evelyn Shaw.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 9, 2013, from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee. A celebration of his life will immediately follow at the graveside in Springhill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Eddie Cooper officiating.
Pallbearers serving will be Bobby Gowan, Steve Nation, Bill Nation, Jay Powell, David Morgan and Fred Morgan.
