INMAN, SC-- George Robert Lang passed into eternal rest on Saturday, February 15, 2014. George was born May 7, 1930 in Krakow, Poland. He was the son of the late John Lang and Sophie Rog Lang.
At the end of World War II, he left Poland and went to Cologne, Germany where he obtained his auto mechanic's license. In 1951, he moved to Canada where he married and had three children. In 1970, he emigrated to the U.S. and continued working as an automobile mechanic until his retirement in 1990.
In 1988, George was given an award by the North Spartanburg Fire Department for his bravery in saving passengers from a burning automobile.
Survivors include his beloved companion, Eva Freihube, daughter, Alice Lang of Campobello, SC, son, George Lang and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lang of Ottawa, Canada, son, William Lang of Campobello, grandchildren, SueAnne Lang and Max Lang of Campobello, sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Dieter Neumann of McDonald's Corners, Canada, sister, Sophie Joannou of Ottawa, Canada, sister-in-law, Margaret Lang of Rome, Georgia, sister-in-law, Eileen Lang of Rome, New York, twenty nieces and nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
George was pre-deceased by his parents, five brothers and two sister-in-laws.
Services were held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Seawright Funeral Home Chapel in Inman, Interment was at Roselawn Cemetery in Inman.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Skylyn Place, Magnolia Manor of Inman, Spartanburg Regional Wound Healing Center, and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, as well as all the other angels along the way (you know who you are) who made George's two year journey to heaven more bearable for him and his family. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
