GAFFNEY, SC-- Peggy Self Messer, 83, of 1637 W. Rutledge Avenue, formerly of Asbury Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Boiling Springs, NC, she was first married to the late Hord Cooper, was the widow of the late Melvin Messer, and was the daughter of the late Landrum Brooker Self and Mettie Ora Humphries Self. Mrs. Messer retired from textiles, loved sewing, and was a member of Goucher Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Gary Cooper and wife, Theresa, of Pacolet; a daughter, Diane Parker and husband, Tom Leuck of Gaffney; a brother, Bobby Self of Shelby, NC; two grandchildren, Katie Burris and husband, Spanky, and Jason Parker and wife, Casey; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Burris and Zoe Parker. She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
The family will receive friends 3:00-4:00 PM on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Norman Gardner and Dr. Spanky Burris officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
