GARDEN CITY BEACH, SC-- Jesse "Pep" Edward Younce, Jr., 85, of Garden City Beach, SC, passed Friday, February 21, 2014 at 5:25 PM in the hospital due to healing complications from cancer surgery. Pep was a resident of Spartanburg, Atlanta and Garden City Beach.
Pep was a championship golfer from prep school years at Woodberry Forrest through college at the University of North Carolina. He was a former Naval Supply System manager on the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge after graduating college. Pep worked in stock brokerage and the insurance industry for several years then assisted his step father in operating SeaPak for a short while in the early years in the fifties. Pep then settled down to assist his family in the real estate business in Spartanburg and raise a family. In the late sixties, Pep moved to Atlanta and opened "Pep's Pizza" and was a successful entrepreneur for over a quarter of a century before retiring. He was a longtime member of the Northside Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA and remained active in the church at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet, SC after moving to Garden City Beach at his wife's passing.
Being an avid fisherman, sports enthusiast, excelled golfer and all around witty cheerful spirit, Pep certainly knew how to entertain an audience and keep them listening. Pep will certainly be missed by many surviving friends and is predeceased by countless friends. He will undoubtedly entertain once again for the many and surprise a few more. A familiar site will be missed seeing him aboard "Dr. Pepper" fishing the seas amongst close friends. It has been heard that when God made Pep, there was not even a mold that could contain that exhaustive wonderful spirit.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and love to the many people that befriended father in the past decade and beyond with tremendous love and care. You have certainly made his life complete.
Family survivors include son, Jesse E. Younce, III, granddaughter, Kathleen J. Younce and great-grandson, Zachary; numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Mallie Bomar Younce Johnson, mother; Jesse E.
