GAFFNEY, SC-- Judith Emily McKissick Brown, child of the Covenant, was called home by our Heavenly Father on March 19, 2014 after a valiant struggle with a blood cancer.
Judy was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 12, 1950 to Marianna Elizabeth Huston McKissick and Jay Eldred McKissick. Shortly after her birth the family moved to San Antonio, Texas where Judy was raised. She graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio with a degree in elementary education and began her teaching career there. After retiring from teaching, Judy began work as a librarian, retiring from the Cherokee County Public Library last year. She loved working with her students and library patrons.
Judy is survived by her husband, Pastor James Edward "Bucky" Brown, Jr. of Gaffney; her sister and brother-in-law, Janna Elizabeth and William Harris Taylor, Jr. of Houston, Texas; her mother-in-law, Earlene Turner Brown of Gaffney; her maternal aunts, Joanne Peterson of Iowa City, Iowa and Jeanne Georges of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Dr. James Edward Brown, Sr.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Dr. Colin Curran, his colleagues and staff at Gibbs Cancer Center, who have cared for Judy during these last years and in this last illness.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Charles Aurand and Rev. Jennie Cooper Gettys officiating. Interment will be at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
