GAFFNEY, SC-- Martha Scruggs Sparks, 85, formerly of 1106 Spring Street, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Brookview Healthcare.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late Ralph Thomas Sparks and daughter of the late Logan Scruggs and Mary Ford Scruggs. Mrs. Sparks was a retired legal secretary working for various local attorneys, formerly worked for the S. C. Probation and Parole Office and was a member of the S. C. Legal Secretary Association. She was a caterer, cooked for the elderly, and was a lifelong member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Steve Sparks and wife, Jima, of Gaffney, Barry Thomas Sparks of Columbia, and Robbie Sparks and wife, Tina, of Gaffney; two daughters, Mary Palmer of Spartanburg and Patricia Adamo and husband, George, of Lincolnton, NC; a sister, Carolyn Pierce of Gaffney; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Woodrow Scruggs, J. W. Scruggs, Lewis Scruggs, Ulysses Scruggs and Dick Scruggs and two sisters, Ruth Horn and Lucille Mace.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lamar McAbee and Dr. Clyde Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
