Walsie W. Owens, Sr.
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Walsie Wendell Owens, Sr. 85, of Spartanburg went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. He was the husband of Donna White Owens.
Mr. Owens was a native of Spartanburg and a son of the late Hampton Wendell and Mabel Eaves Owens. He was a retired carman with Southern Norfolk Railroad, a 23-year veteran of the US Air Force where he served as a tail gunner on B-29 bombers. He was a weapons and airplane mechanic and he also served in the Vietnam arena. He was a mason and a member of Powell Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: Walsie W. Owens, Jr. and Wade Daren Owens of Spartanburg; daughters: Gladys "Teene" Wills and Lee Ann Owens of Spartanburg and Shelia Caulder of Campobello; a brother: James Dennis Owens of Spartanburg; sister-in-law: Joyce Owens of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren: Angela Hamilton, Kristina Conner, Stacie Noseworthy, Trish Wilkes, Hilburn, Quinton, and Grayson Caulder; ten great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two grandchildren: Lennyn Sierra and Kayla Johnson; and a brother: Jerry Owens.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. A Memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM in the Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Fred Thompson.
