SPARTANBURG, SC-- Wendell Dean Johnson, 83, of 830 Whitestone Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
Born in Gaffney, SC, he was first married to the late Mozelle Harrington Johnson, was the husband of Jean Eilders Johnson of the home, and was the son of the late Mitchell Johnson and Marie Price Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Gaffney High School, retired from Hoechst Celanese, was a U.S. Air Force veteran, was a Mason and Shriner, and was a member of Croft Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman, loved to hunt, and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Gaffney Indians fan.
In addition to his wife, also surviving is a daughter, Lori Johnson Allison and husband, Tim, of Mooresboro, NC; three stepdaughters, Julie Fisher and husband, Paul, of Inman, Jill Farnsworth and husband, Bill, of Roebuck and Jolene Bradey and husband, Mark, of Hobbs, New Mexico; two stepsons, Jon Eilders and wife, Tiffany, of Moore and Ilert (Bootie) Eilders and wife, Sara of Spartanburg; a brother, Kress Johnson of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Lindsay Allison and Courtney Allison; fourteen step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Dempsey and Rev. Harold Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital-Crippled Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
