NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-- Elizabeth Sarah Gibson Hammett, 59, passed away at her home in Charleston, SC on Friday, May 30, 2014. She was born on July 6, 1954, in Spartanburg County and was the daughter of James Ronald Gibson and the late Amanda Smith Gibson.
A graduate of Dorman High School and Greenville Technical College, she was employed for 37 years as a surgical technician at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Joshua Hawkins Chapter of the DAR of Spartanburg County and the South Carolina State Grange, where she served as Women's Activities Director.
Survivors include her husband, John M. Hammett, Jr. of the home; a son, Matthew Hammett and wife Chloe of Solon, OH; a daughter, Sarah Hammett of Charleston; a nephew, Christopher Gibson, raised in the home; a granddaughter, Sophie, who was the love of her life; a brother, James Gibson of Spartanburg; and also her two special bedbuddies, Molly and Nala.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 2, 2014, at Fairforest Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Brent Dowis and the Rev. Gary Hensley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Following the burial, the family will receive friends in the church Social Hall.
The family will be at the home of Ronald Gibson, 526 Cedar Crest Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
