CHESNEE, SC-- Mr. Berry Walker Hughey, 101, of Chesnee, SC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was the widower of Lizzie Henderson Hughey.
Mr. Hughey was a native of Spartanburg County and a son of the late Harland D. and Maggie Berry Hughey. He was a retired loom fixer and the oldest member of Buck Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Ken and Linda Hughey of Boiling Springs; a daughter and son-in-law: Sherland and Joe Cannon of Spartanburg; daughters-in-law: Louise Hughey of Bessemer City, NC and Judy Hughey of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren: Myra Powell, Amy Jurgensmeyer, Cathi Lathan, Todd Hughey, and Rodney Hughey; two step grandchildren: Eric Moss and Rhonda Pleasonton; eleven great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren; and one step great, great, grandchild. He was predeceased by two sons: Dupre Hughey and Ted Hughey along with five sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Eggers Funeral Chapel of Boiling Springs. Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Scott Linnerud will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buck Creek Baptist Church, 506 Buck Creek Road, Chesnee, SC 29323; Calvary Baptist Church, 4000 Parris Bridge Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316 or to Boiling Springs 1st Baptist Church, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
The family will be at the home of Joe and Sherland Cannon, 835 Mike Circle, Spartanburg.
