Mildred B. Alcorn
COLUMBIA, SC-- Funeral service for Mildred B. Alcorn, 86, will be Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Living Springs Lutheran Church, 4224 Hard Scrabble Road with burial at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel is assisting the family.
Mrs. Alcorn was born January 31, 1923, in Americus, GA, where she grew up and attended school. She was a daughter born to the late Adam and Eunice Osborne Smith.
"Miss Mildred", affectionately known by her friends, was a loving and giving woman with an amazing spirit, full of vitality with a beautiful smile. Mildred, above all, cherished family and having her children and grandchildren around her. She loved holiday gatherings that brought family and friends together. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, tending to her flowers, and participating in the activities of her grandchildren. Mrs. Alcorn was a career military wife to her predeceased husband, Edwin H. Alcorn, US Army Retired veteran. She worked as a professional seamstress and was employed at Wachovia Bank in Columbia, where she retired. Mrs. Alcorn loved her volunteer work at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and Northsprings School. She was a member of the Living Springs Lutheran Church and was very active with the Living Springs Ladies Quilting Group.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Lynne Olencki (Mark) of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Patricia Lee Dickerson (Charles) of Columbia; her son, David Adam Alcorn of Columbia, SC; her son, Jeffrey Clarke Alcorn (Sharon) of Lugoff, SC; grandson, Justin Dickerson of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Joshua Sharpe of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandson, Weston Olencki of Spartanburg, SC; grandson, Jeffrey Alcorn, of Columbia, SC; grandson, David Dickerson (Stephanie) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Christina Alcorn of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren, Jordan and McKenzie Dickerson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jeremy and Jessi Dickerson of Columbia, SC; and many dear friends from the Benzie T. Rice Home. Mrs. Alcorn was predeceased by ten brothers and sisters.
