SPARTANBURG, SC-- Willie Joan Gardner Kirby, 79, of 274 Sweet Gum Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at her residence.
Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Fred Daniel Gardner and Daisy Mae Fowler Gardner. Mrs. Kirby retired from the textiles industry and was of the Baptist faith. She loved music, dancing and her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is a son, Olin E. Kirby and wife Rhonda Gail of Spartanburg; a daughter, Deborah Droulers of Bradenton, FL; two sisters, Lois Griffin and husband Vernon of Gaffney and Barbara Harley and husband G.R. of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren, Travis Kirby, Brandy Holland and husband John, Amber Kirby, Ira Kirby, Jessica Kirby, Joseph Droulers, Justin Droulers and Jake Droulers; seven great-grandchildren, Kevin Holland, Tevin Holland, Aysha Holland, Trevor Murray, Isaiah Kirby, Nova Kirby and Joleigh Droulers. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Gardner and a sister, Betty Bailey.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Blakely Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nicholas King officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital-Crippled Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
The family will be at the home of Olin and Rhonda Gail Kirby, 276 Sweet Gum Road, Spartanburg.
