LYMAN, SC-- Grace Hinson Watson, 80, of 504 Mountain View Circle, died August 4, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Waterloo, SC, daughter of the late William Mason and Elsie Israel Hinson, she was a member of Inman Mills Baptist Church where she served as assistant teacher for the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She retired from the North Spartan Baptist Association in 1996, after having served faithfully for many years in churches in Spartanburg, Aiken, and Chester counties, the North Spartan Baptist Association, the South Carolina Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She brought her love of child care and early childhood education to the Baptist disaster relief effort and was named Director-Emeritus of South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief Child Care. Mrs. Watson received the following awards; SCBC E.A. McDowell Award for Exemplary Christian Service, North American Mission Board Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Ministry through Disaster Relief and the South Carolina Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Ministry Distinguished Service Award that is named in honor of Choice and Grace Watson. Mrs. Watson also served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was instrumental in organizing WLT High School Class Reunions.
Surviving are her husband, Reverend Choice E. Watson of Lyman; a daughter, Peggy Collins (Dennis) of Braselton, Georgia; sons, Tommy Watson (Dale Marie Murphy) of Wellford, Billy Watson (Angie) of Tigerville and Bradley Watson (Andrea) of Lyman; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Hinson (Linda) of Spartanburg and Don Hinson of Wellford; and one sister, Emily Shanklin (Gene) of Greer.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Inman Mills Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Jack Hames. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Inman Mills Baptist Church.
Honorary escort will be The T.E.L. Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at The Wood Mortuary.
