ST. PETERSBURG, FL-- Rubye Smith Bull was born August 3 1920, the second of 4 children born to Willie Arthur and Viola Moorehead Smith in Union , SC. She attended South Carolina State College earning a BS degree in Elementary Education in 1940 and a Master's degree from New York University. She taught in the NY Public Schools until she returned to Spartanburg South Carolina to marry Dr. JC Bull, MD. She continued her teaching career in Spartanburg County Schools retiring in 1982. She was a distinguished teacher, caring, dedicated and committed to her students.
Rubye moved to St. Petersburg, FL, in 1993. She became a member of McCabe United Methodist Church in St Petersburg, Florida, and continued her membership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and as an Alumnae member of the Links Incorporated, St. Petersburg Chapter.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy: three daughters, Dr. Jonca Humphries (Derrick), Dr. Mendee Ligon (Reginald ), and Jewelle Chambliss (William ), 8 cherished and adored grandchildren, Shannon Ligon, Alexander Humphries, Auguste Humphries, Brian Ligon, Erica Simpson (father Eric Simpson), Jonna Humphries, Evan Ligon, and William "Capers" Chambliss; nephews, Michael Sims, Dennis Sims, Stanley Smith and Vincent Smith; nieces Shirley Jones and Linda Huntley; cherished special daughter, Michelle Ligon; devoted god-daughters, Tammy Strong and Vivian Russell Baker; beloved cousin, Marionette Daniels and the Sanders family, beloved cousins, Albert and Helen Smith, the Smith and Lipsey families, the Humphries family, and the Pettis family.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at McCabe United Methodist Church, 2800 26th Ave. South, St. Petersburg, FL 33712.
The family gratefully suggests contributions to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation in her memory, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760.
