COWPENS, SC-- Fred J. Thrift, 77, of 159 Garden Creek Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Cherokee County, he was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Maynor Thrift and son of the late Dewey Thrift and Roselle Blake Thrift. Mr. Thrift retired from Harley Bag Company and was a member of Westside Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Michael Thrift and wife, Renee of Cowpens and Tony Thrift and wife, Susan of Boiling Springs, SC; to daughters, Robin Childers and husband, Ricky of Cowpens and Beth Rice of Fountain Inn; four grandchildren, Rev. Russ Thrift and wife, Rachel, Leslie Benefield and husband, Rev. Chad, Ethan Childers and Dakota Childers; nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Hollis Thrift, Lawson Thrift, Defoy Thrift and Carroll Thrift and two sisters, Ruby Fowler and Ruth Phillips.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Westside Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Travis Blackwell, Rev. Chad Benefield and Pastor Steve Griffith officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.
