Mr. James Edgar "TwoGun" Sumner

UNION, SC-- Mr. James Edgar "TwoGun" Sumner, 82, husband of Mrs. Joan Laxton Sumner of 180 Santuc Drive, Union, SC, died Friday, December 28th, 2012, at his home.
Born June 1st, 1930, a son of the late William Brooks Sumner and Etta Ward Sumner. Mr. Sumner had retired from the Union County, SC National Guard after 47 years of service and also retired from Cone Mills, Roller Print Department. James was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served for many years on the Hostess and Bereavement Committees and was a member of the Men's Fellowship Sunday School Class. He and his wife Joan also volunteered their time as Host for the Myrtle Beach, SC State Park and the Davidson River and North Mills River Federal Parks in NC. Mr. Sumner was an Avid Hunter, Fisherman, and Outdoorsman.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Deborah Sumner Bishop of Union; one son, Danny James Sumner (Glenda) of Chester SC; one brother, William Brooks Sumner (Jinny) of Lancaster SC; one sister, Shirley Sumner Burnett of Union; five grandchildren, Chris Sumner (Jennifer), Brooks Sumner (Liz), Opal Sumner (Chris), Jamie Sumner, and Patsy Lynn Puckett; four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Paul Bell.
He was preceded in death by one son, Aubrey Dean Sumner; three sisters, Ruby Hewitt, Katie Foster, and Geraldine Hayes; and one brother, John Sumner.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31st, 2012, at 11am at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Chapman and Wayne Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 30th from 6-8pm at Lewis Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Larry Yarbrough, Eric DePratter, Leonard Greene, Danny Mize, Jerry Foster, and Mike Hayes, Tabernacles Men's Fellowship Sunday School Class, Paul Bell, Eddie Hines, Al Smith and Don Shetley are asked to sit in a group.
In Lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 915 S. Pinckney St., Union, SC 29379, or Hospice Care of SC Union County, 408 N. Duncan Bypass, Union, SC 29379.
The family is at the home, 180 Santuc Dr., Union, SC 29379.
Lewis Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
