STARTEX, SC-- William G. (Tex) Bentley Jr., age 74, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013. Tex was the son of the late William G. Bentley Sr. and the late Lucille Coggins Bentley. Tex attended James F. Byrnes High School, served in the US Army, owned and operated Startex Used Cars and was a member of Abner Creek Baptist Church.
Tex was proceeded in death by his wife, Melissa Lucille Pate Bentley; and by his sister, Martha B. Taylor. Surviving are four sons and two daughters-in-law, Billy Bentley of Duncan, Benny and Kristie Bentley of Wellford, Bobby and Paulette Bentley of Lyman, and Brian Bentley of Duncan. Also surviving are two brothers, Alton Bentley of Inman, and James "Monk" Bentley of Duncan. Tex was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Chas, Blake, Shuler, Avery, Jake, Reed, Braxton, Emily, Brooks, Bryson, and Marissa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
Services will be held at Stribling Funeral Home with visitation being held Sunday, March 24th from 6-8 pm and the funeral at 2pm on Monday, March 25th led by Rev. Don Kelley. Interment will be at Wood Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of a son, Bobby Bentley, 331 Stoddard Drive, Lyman, SC.
