John Turner
GAFFNEY, SC-- John Butler Turner, of 300 Mimosa Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Gaffney Medical Center.
Born in Greenville, he was the husband of Marilyn Cash Turner and was the son of the late Oscar and Margie Phillips Turner and was raised in the home of his grandparents Butler and Rosa Phillips. Mr. Turner retired from Purina Mills after 35 years of service and was a U. S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher in the adult and children departments and also served as a RA leader. He was a former mason, was an avid Washington Redskins fan, enjoyed running, walking, yard work, and loved to travel, especially to Hawaii.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a brother, Willie Turner and wife, Beth, of Alabama; special friends, Michael Elmore, Melissa Allison and Doug Wright. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Turner and a sister-in-law, Diane Turner.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Richard Cutchin and staff.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Sellers, Rev. Tommy Comer and Mr. Oscar Fuller officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence, 300 Mimosa Drive, Gaffney.
