Mrs. Thelma Davis Jones
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Thelma Davis Jones, 90, widow of J.B. Jones, Sr., peacefully entered into eternal on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was born in Fairfield County on June 28, 1922 to the late Willie Davis, Sr. and Maggie Crumpton Davis.
Mrs. Jones is survived by: two loving daughters Dorothea Jones of Spartanburg, SC and Barbara Grigley of Charlotte, N.C.; two beloved grandchildren, Christopher Voerg Jones, of Monterey, California, and Daryl Evans (Lori) of Inman, SC.; and a beloved great-granddaughter, Tenia Danielle Evans.
Thelma was the oldest of thirteen children. She is survived by: six loving sisters, Mrs. Janie Clowney, Mrs. Rubye Smith (Robert), Mrs. Ruth Hardy, Mrs. Bessie Ferguson, Mrs. Genovia Dawkins (Charles), Mrs. Frances Griffin (Robert); and two devoted brothers, James Davis (Bessie), Willie Davis(Annie); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, J.B. Jones Jr. and her two brothers, Roosevelt and Clarence Davis; her two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Rice and Mrs. Margie Brown.
Mrs. Jones graduated from the former Carver High School, Class of 1943. She was a life-long member of Stephen Grove A.M.E. Zion Church. Mrs. Jones was the former president of the Deaconess Board, a member of the Willing Workers, of the Missionary Society, former Church Secretary, and a member of the Bee Street Sympathy Club. She also attended First A.M. Church.
She retired from Jonathan Logan (Butte Knitt) and Spartan Undies after many years of service.
Alzheimers disease stole Thelma's memory, but not her sweet personality. She loved her children and family, and it showed in her sweet indomitable spirit. Mrs. Jones always saw the best in everyone, and will be remembered for her wonderful laugh and her generosity.
Services will be held on Saturday May 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the John Stinson Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the home.
