GAFFNEY, SC-- Wallace Lamar Smiley, 85, of 128 Lazywood Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Betty Byars Smiley and was the son of the late Perry Lee Smiley and Martha Desree Lester Smiley. Mr. Smiley retired from Kohler, was a beekeeper, and was a member of the VFW Post 3447. He loved the Chesnee Flea Market and went everyday for 21 years, loved to sit on a bench at Wal-Mart and talk to people, was a U. S. Army and Air Force Veteran, and was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Steven Lamar Smiley and wife, Wanda, of Spartanburg; two daughters, Kathy Cantrell and Renee Kirby and husband, Jeff, all of Gaffney; four brothers, Perry Smiley and wife, Linda, of Boston, VA, O. B. Smiley and wife, Patsy, of Gaffney, Jackie Smiley of Gaffney, and Eddie Smiley and wife, Jean, of Pacolet; three sisters, Kathleen Phillips of Matthews, NC, Onie Moore and husband, Curtis, of Gaffney and Katie Hoffman and husband, Gene, of Mayo; two grandchildren, Cory Cantrell and Tyler Smiley.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Craig officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens with military honors.
