Alonzo Rogers Weed III Obituary
Alonzo Rogers Weed III

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Rogers Weed, 76, husband of Lynne Trammell Weed, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.
Rogers was born in Newton, Massachusetts on July 19, 1937. He graduated from the Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury, MA where he excelled at baseball and soccer. He went on to Yale University on a NROTC scholarship. After college, Rogers served in the Navy for three years patrolling the Atlantic and Mediterranean on the USS Huntington. Following the Navy, Rogers enrolled in the Harvard Business School where he received his MBA with a focus on operations.
Rogers first moved to Spartanburg in 1962 to join Deering Milliken where he was on the team that built the first datacenter for the company. After a short stint with a real estate finance start-up, he settled in as the General Manager at Associated Petroleum Carriers where he worked for nearly thirty years.
Rogers was a very involved member of St Paul's Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Sunday school teacher for many years. He built houses with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered with Young Life and Mobile Meals among other civic causes.
More than what Rogers did, though, it was how he lived that will be most remembered and cherished by all of his adoring family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Lynne, Rogers is survived by two sisters, Marcia and Virginia; four sons, Rogers, Peter, Charles, and Christopher; step-daughter, Trish; step-son, Brian; and 13 grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his sister, Patricia.
Visitation will be today, March 2, 2014, 5:00-7:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.
A Mass of Christian of Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 11:00 AM Monday, March 3, 2014, celebrated by Reverend Timothy M. Gahan and Deacon Robert L. Mahaffey.
In remembrance of Rogers, memorial contributions may be made to Mobile Meals, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; St. Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 N. Dean St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.
