Jan Rhea Simms
GREER, SC-- On Thursday, March 24, 2016, Janice Ann 'Jan' Rhea Simms, 61, of Greer, SC, peacefully left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born December 22, 1954, in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of JoAnn Carter Rhea of Spartanburg, SC and the late James 'Roger' Rhea.
Jan lived in grace and dignity; she fought a valiant fight against breast cancer since 2000. She was adored and loved by her husband and family and all who knew her will remember her friendly smile and graceful presence.
Jan lived her childhood and youth in Weaverville, NC and then relocated to Spartanburg, SC. She attended Spartanburg High School and Montreat-Anderson College, Montreat, NC.
Jan spent the majority of her career as an 'Employee Benefits' insurance agent for the McDowell Insurance Agency, Simpsonville, SC.
Known for her beautiful smile and ability to bring laughter and happiness to those around her...she was a consummate hostess, accomplished cook, adamant reader and a loyal friend. She always enjoyed time at their Lake house on Keowee with her husband John and the companionship of their beloved dogs.
In addition to her mother, she leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, John Simms of Greer, SC; her brother, Jim Rhea and niece Kelsey Rhea of Columbia, SC; stepdaughter, Kimberly Gibbs and her husband Jeremy, also their children, Skyler and Jordan Gibbs of Greenville, SC; stepson, Nicholas Simms and his wife Maria, also their children, Dax and Britton Simms of Greenville, SC; and numerous beloved extended family members.
Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Friday, April 1, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Peter A. Waid. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244 online at ww5.komen.org.
