BOONVILLE – Rev. Hobert Burdin Jr, 86, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Transcendent Health Campus-South.
Hobert was born May 8, 1927, to Hobert Burdin and Inos Burdin (Lindsey) in Ohio County, Ky.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Owen Burdin; a stepbrother, Buster Gilstrap and a stepsister, Ella Bell Malin.
He married Anna Mae Purdue July 30, l948. Anna has been a faithful wife standing by his side throughout his entire adult life. They were married 65 years.
Hobert is survived by four daughters and a son, Carol Clark, Brenda Nix, Becky Knipp and Randy Burdin, all of Boonville and Teresa McBride of Blair, Neb.; 11 grandchildren, Scott Clark, Ryan, Robert and Rodney Nix of Boonville, Aaron and Christen Burdin of Boise, Idaho, and Jennifer, Jessica, Sarah, Emily and David McBride of Blair, Neb., six great-grandchildren, Meagan, Kristopher and Trevor Nix of Boonville and Heather and Dustin Clark and Dalton Nix of Rockport; two great-great-grandchildren, Paxton and Brianna and one brother, Woodrow Burdin of Chrisney.
Hobert was a World War II veteran. He was ordained as a general Baptist minister Aug. 30, 1958. He pastored churches in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Florida for 45 years and also served as an interim pastor at numerous churches. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for more than 10 years in Indiana and Florida. His greatest loves, other than his family, were building churches and visiting the sick. Hobert never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at Koehler Funeral Home-Boonville Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. Chalmer Burden and Rev. Bob Carr with burial in Hackelman Cemetery in Spencer County, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday Feb. 6 and Friday 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
