LAMAR - Jack Delbert Schriefer, 82, of Lamar passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013.
He was born to Delbert and Bethel (Ferguson) Schriefer in Lamar June 12, 1931. He married Mary Anne Fitzgerald Aug. 26, 1973. She died July 5, 2011. Jack was a member of Mount Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus, where he taught Sunday school and Bible study for many years.
Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Jack was very involved in rural youth. He earned his degree in agronomy from Purdue University. He was a longtime member of Gideons International. Jack was a lifelong farmer who worked many years for the Soil Conservation Service in Gibson, Spencer and Vanderburgh counties, he later served as a U.S. Postal carrier in Gentryville, Holland and Otwell for more than 20 years. Jack also served on the Spencer County Council on Aging. His passion was for working the land, and he did so throughout his retirement.
