EVANSVILLE - Jan Elaine Powers, 54, of Evansville, a gentle loving spirit bound by mortal flesh, has been released and allowed to soar to be with her Lord and beloved family who has gone before her.

Jan was born in Rockport Nov. 15, 1958, the daughter of Arthur and Anna Best, who preceded her in death, as did her brother, Philip Best.
She graduated from South Spencer High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Lockyear College. She was employed by Gaither Rutherford for many years until her retirement due to illness.
Jan is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John T. Powers Sr.; her precious children, Jennifer Powers of Evansville Trey McGuinn of Los Angeles, Calif., John T. Powers Jr. and Jamie Harrison (Robert) all of Evansville, Miranda Jones of Rockville and Lacy Perry of Evansville; nine grandchildren; a brother, Jim Best and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel will assist with the arrangements.
