Kathryn J. Meyer, 86 of rural Dale, IN passed away on November 18, 2017. Kathryn was born March 1, 1931 to the late Louis and Bertha (Brenner) Meyer on the Meyer Family farm where she resided and worked her entire life.
Kathryn was a farmer. She was the youngest of 7 children. Her mother died when she was 7 years old. She grew up working on the family farm alongside her father and brother, Sylvan. She was very proud that in 2015 the Meyer family farm received recognition as a Hoosier Homestead Farm by the State of Indiana for 100+ years family owned farm.
She worked as secretary for 25 years for Dale and Heritage Hills High Schools. She was an ardent athletic supporter of both Dale High School, her Alma Mater, and Heritage Hills. She also worked as a milk tester, a meat locker worker and a coal company secretary. Kathryn was a lifelong member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill, IN. She was deeply devoted to her church and the Mariah Hill community. She cared and knew many people and their family relations. She was a recipient of the Simon Brute' Award, the Mother Teresa Award and the St. Vincent de Paul lifetime member recognition in 2014. She delivered fruit baskets to families in her community at Christmas. She was a member of the church finance committee and the Ladies Sodality.
She was one of the first Eucharistic ministers at Mary Help of Christian Church, was a rosary leader, and loved to sing and talk. Kathryn was a church picnic bingo caller for over 60 years, and donated produce, homemade jelly, and quilts. She was a quilter, and a jelly, peanut brittle, and wine maker. As a young adult, Kathryn was very active in Rural Youth and established the first 4 H club in Mariah Hill. Caring for the farm and farm animals was Kathryn's life. She always loved her puppy dogs.
She was an Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Cardinal fan. She planned and organized her Dale High School class of '48 annual reunions for many years. In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by sisters Helen Meyer, Rosalind Gogel, Adella Meyer and Edna Meyer; brothers, Sylvan and Robert Meyer; nephew Don Gogel. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Sharon and Ernie Hicks of Evansville, George and Kathy Gogel of Richland, and Audrey and Ted Lipking of Boonville; close friends, the Ralph and Teresia Seifert Family, and many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Mary Help of Christians, Mariah Hill, IN at 10:00 Central time on Wednesday November 22, Fr. John Brosmer officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 21, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm CDT time and at the church the next day at 9:00 am Central time until service time.
