Pat Gibbs, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at his home, surrounded by family.
Pat was born on Nov. 26, 1946, in Evansville to the late Hargis Gibbs and Imogene (Golladay) Gibbs of Rockport.
Pat was a graduate of Rockport High School and had attended Indiana University and Indiana State University. Pat was a United States Marine, having served in Vietnam. Pat was a sign painter and the owner of Gibbs Signs.
Pat loved to paint and draw, and was an avid runner and swimmer. He also coached swimming and cross country at South Spencer High School. He had a passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes. Pat was also a member of the Lorraine Swim Team in Evansville and still holds records for the Evansville City Meet. Pat was a loyal U.K. Wildcats fan and he also wrote and illustrated children's books.
Pat is survived by his mother, Imogene Gibbs of Rockport; wife, Angie (Esterline) Gibbs, whom he married on July 23, 1982; son Ken Gibbs and his wife, Kim, of Rockport; daughter Jennifer Adams and her husband, Keith, of Rockport; grandchildren Zack and Amber Adams, Kailey and Kori Gibbs, and a future granddaughter due in October; brother Don Gibbs of Evansville; sisters Jane Wheaton and her husband, Steve, of Evansville, and Gwynn Turner and her husband, Mike, of Rockport; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home.
