Thelma Jean (Chapman) Carter, 83, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Ky.
Thelma was born in Rockport on Dec. 16, 1934, to the late Virgil and Mabel (Loper) Chapman.
She was a correctional officer for DISMAS Charities in Owensboro for 10 years and worked for Owensboro Mercy Hospital for 20 years before retiring in 2005. She was a member of Rockport Gospel Mission Church; the D.A.R.; and the National Republican Committee. She loved to go shopping, reading the bible; going to church; antiques; cutting articles out for family members to keep; her roses and her flowers; the color red; and most importantly, spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Carter; brothers, Roy, Paul, Robert, Charles, Virgil, and Elmo Chapman; sister, Alberta Leslie; and her best friend, her little dog, Willie.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Theresa Dunn of Owensboro; Terena Kyle and her husband Mike of Rome; and Tammy Carter and her companion, Chuck Parker of Grandview; grandchildren, Michelle, Patrick, Ryan, Kristina, Elizabeth, Robert, Eddie, Michelle, and Alana; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great -great grandchildren; a sister in law, Deloris Chapman of Rockport; and a dear friend, Jerry Hamilton of Rockport.
Services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 8, at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport with Pastor Tim Coomer officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Newtonville.
Visitation will be Monday, May 07, 2018 from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. and from 9 A.M. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation.
