CHRISNEY - Lillian Trinkel Freschly, 91, of Chrisney passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Ky., surrounded by her family.
Lillian was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Centerville to the late Jess and Ethel Trinkel. She weighed 2.5 pounds at birth and survived 91 years.
She graduated from Chrisney High School in 1939. She took additional courses in bookkeeping there and worked in positions from clerk to office manager at the Farm Bureau Co-Op in Chrisney.
On Sept. 9, 1950, she was married to Allen R. Freschly only weeks before he was sent to fight in the Korean War. Upon his return, they purchased a farm in Ohio Township.
Lillian worked alongside her husband operating the farm, doing the accounting and pitching in as needed with farm chores. She loved gardening, especially her roses, and raised a large garden every summer, which provided food for the family.
She was involved in 4-H Clubs, and was the leader of the Silverdale Girls 4-H Club for more than 12 years. She was also a member of the Gingham Home Economics Club.
She served as financial secretary, youth group leader, and Sunday-school teacher at Zion United Church of Christ, where she was a lifelong member, and a member of the women's guild group. She also served on the board of the Centerville Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, J.C.; her brother, Frank and her husband of almost 50 years, Allen.
Surviving are her two children, Dean Freschly and his wife, Kay of rural Rockport and Carol Granger and her husband, Jeff of Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren, Jonathan Freschly and his wife, Kim of Watonga, Okla., Joy Freschly and her fiancé, Josh Dauble of Evansville, Brendan Granger of Santa Monica, Calif., and Erin Granger of Park City, Utah; two great-grandchildren, Brystal and Avery Freschly of Watonga; sisters-in-law Dorothy Freschly, Pearlie Freschly and Joan Trinkel and a niece and nephew, Susan Carey and Steve Trinkel. She also leaves behind her church family and many friends from the Chrisney Community Apartments, where she resided in her later years.
She was fond of traveling, needlework, cooking, sewing, treating her family to dining out, taking drives in the countryside, ice cream and crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She had a sharp memory and always thought of others before herself. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Services were conducted Saturday, April 20, at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport.
The Rev. Steve Bennett officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ and the Centerville Cemetery.
