Bailey, Danny Russell Sr. 71 of Taylorsville, KY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, after a four year battle with cancer. He said "You just got to ride it out" and what a good ride he had.
Danny was born in Glasgow, KY in a log house to Elzie Russell and Edith Ellen Matthews Bailey on September 5, 1941. He graduated from Temple Hill High School in 1960 and married the love of his life, Jane Poynter on July 5, 1962. After deciding that he didn't want to farm, he moved to Louisville to continue being a truck driver. Danny worked various part time jobs as a truck driver including the old Dixie Highway Express and Liquid Transporters. He finally got a full time job at Dixie Warehouse and Cartage Company in 1964. He worked there for 33 years without an accident and retired with a Teamsters Local 89 pension. After a year, he decided that he wasn't ready to retire, so he went to work as a school bus driver and mechanic for the Spencer County KY Board of Education. He worked there for ten more years, eventually retiring as the head mechanic, when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Danny was a member of the Freemasonry, Sons of the American Revolution, Kentucky Colonel and Taylorsville United Methodist Church.
Danny was preceded in death by many friends and family including his parents, big brothers Jerry Dale, and Bobby Larrell, and little sister Patsy Neal.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Emma Jane Poynter Bailey, his daughters, Pascal Ellen Bailey, and Jana Francine Bailey, and his favorite son Danny Russell Bailey Jr. He is also survived by his niece Robin Bailey Gray (David) and their children Bailey Gray and Barrett Gray, who he loved dearly.
A celebration of Danny's life will be held at Taylorsville United Methodist Church at 145 West Main Street Taylorsville, Ky 40071, on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 5pm.
