John William Nethery Jr., 86, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

A native of Spencer County, he was the son of the late John William Nethery Sr. and Myrtle Goodwin Nethery. An active member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church for many years, he had served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, Training Union leader and Sunday School superintendent.
A proud veteran of World War II, he served as a coxswain in the United States Navy. He was a retired materials engineer for the Vulcan Crushed Stone Company and a farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ollie Mitchell Nethery, and his sister, Marjorie Nethery Cissell.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Jordan Nethery; his son, John M. Nethery and his wife, Brenda, of Taylorsville; his daughters, Laura Elaine Gaddie and her husband, David, of Mount Washington, and Suzanne Nethery Becker and her husband, Kenneth, of Taylorsville; his seven grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Amos, David E. Gaddie Jr., Suzanne Kathleen Gaddie, Laura Becker Martin, Mary Virginia Becker, Brennan Nethery, Jamison Nethery, and Michael Scott Gaddie; and his five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Taylorsville.
Services: 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 19, at the Elk Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Jackson and the Rev. Leon Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Cemetery.
