Verenice GEITTMANN Obituary

GEITTMANN, Verenice (Townsley) Of Spokane, Washington and formerly of Chicago and Winnetka, Illinois, was born December 9, 1913 in Burnettsville, Indiana to Mamie and Art Townsley and passed away on February 1, 2014. "Neci" attended the Northwestern University School of Nursing and trained at Passavant Hospital where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked as a charge nurse for the Northwestern University School of Medicine's hospital in Chicago. She married Dr. William F. Geittmann on January 1, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois where he was a founding member of the Chicago Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology. While living in Chicago and Winnetka, she was active in many civic and educational capacities, including Kenilworth Infant Welfare, and in 1970 she was a Committee Chairman of the annual American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology meeting held that year in Chicago. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution and had traced her family back many centuries. She was proud to visit the family castle in Burnley, England, which had been turned into a museum for the public. Neci and Bill enjoyed worldwide travel together. They were married for 62 years until he died on June 21, 2000. She is survived by three sons, William F. Geittmann, Jr., Daniel and Susan Geittmann, and Gunther Heintz Geittmann, and a daughter, Barbara Geittmann; four grandchildren, Clay Geittmann, Sara Geittmann Rogel, Axel Geittmann and Max Geittmann; and two great-grandchildren, William Geittmann and Ever Rogel. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Spokane, or Riverview Retirement Community. At Neci's request there will not be a local service.

During this time of sorrow, I would like to extend my sympathy to the Geittmann family. I feel honored to have met Verenice on so many occassions while working with you Barb. She was such a strong woman and always left a great impression behind. I will be talking about her for many years to come. I tink you can all be proud of having had her as a Mom.
My heart goes out to you all.
