Archie Lyle ALLENBACH(08/13/1927 - 02/18/2013)

ALLENBACH, Archie Lyle (Age 85) Lifelong Colfax resident and much loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Archie Lyle Allenbach, passed away February 18, 2013 at Whitman Medical Center in Colfax. He was 85. Born August 13, 1927 in Colfax to August and Emma (Schrag) Allenbach. Raised in the Onecho area, he attended Long Hollow Grade School, and Colfax High School, graduating in 1945. He served in the army from 1945 to 1947, spending about a year in Korea. In 1953, he graduated from Eastern State College in Cheney with a degree in Physical Education. Archie co-owned ACE Food Store with sister, Edna & Cliff Presnell. He also drove school bus for many years. In 1963, he began a career with the United States Postal Service in Colfax as a city mail carrier until his retirement in 1988. On Valentine's Day, 1963, Archie married Alice Manchester Gylling in Colfax. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially playing pinochle and other card games. He was an avid sports fan, golfer and bowler. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of a wide variety of farm animals. He loved attending sporting events, coaching his children and watching them in their activities. He also faithfully followed his grandchildren's athletic endeavors. He was a member of the Onecho Bible Church and the Wilcox Grange. Archie was preceded in death by his brother Dale (Bud). He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice Allenbach, sons, Jim Allenbach and Paul (Debbie) Gylling, all of Colfax, daughters Nancy (Rick) Bozarth of Juneau, Alaska, and Freda (Dean) Miller of Colfax, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He is also survived by a sister Edna Presnell of Seattle, and brothers, Leo Allenbach of Clarkston, and Merle Allenbach of Colfax along with numerous nieces and nephews. On Thursday, February 28, a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Onecho Cemetery, followed by an 11:00 a.m. service at the Onecho Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Onecho Bible Church (Bus Fund) or memorial of donor's choice.
