Donald J. Vogel

June 21, 1948 - March 19, 2014 Beloved husband, father, brother and friend to all, passed peacefully from this life to the next surrounded by family early March 19th at Hospice House of Spokane.  Donald Jacob Vogel was born in Lewistown, MT on June 21, 1948, to William and Louise Vogel. He lived on the family ranch near Winnett, MT.  After graduating high school Don served four years in the US Marine Corps.  Following his military service Don settled in Spokane and attended Spokane Community College, graduating with an electronics degree.  He worked as a Communications Tech for the city of Spokane. He retired in 2004 after 27 years on the job. One of Don's lifelong hobbies was Ham Radio, his first "Ham shack" was on the front porch of the family home.  During his military service he served in part as a radio liaison, enabling other soldiers to communicate with their families during the Vietnam War. Even his license plate had his call letters: WA7BAA. Don loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker, bicyclist, and camper. Don was a long time volunteer with Meals on Wheels.  Always there to lend a helping hand he was an inspiration to all who knew him. Don met Sandi in 1998 and they were married in 2001.  They were truly soul mates. They made countless memories together and lived each day to the fullest.  Don is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Sandi, brothers David of Spokane, Dick of Ft. White, FL, Bob of Anchorage, AK, and Roger of Manhattan, MT., son Monte and his partner David, stepson Jeff and his partner Chuck, stepdaughter Amy, beloved dog Sadie, granddogs Cody, Casey and Gizmo, and numerous nieces and nephews.  The family thanks Jeanine Fickert for guiding us on this journey, Horizon Hospice, and Hospice House of Spokane. Your service and care were a comfort and a blessing to all of us.  A military honor service will be held Monday, March 31st at 11:15 AM at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Medical Lake, WA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Don's honor to Horizon Hospice, Hospice House of Spokane, or Meals on Wheels.
