Lanny Evans, a lifelong resident and former mayor of Almira.
Francis Delano "Lanny" Evans passed away January 9th, 2012 in Davenport, WA where he had resided in the Lincoln County Nursing home. He was 78 years old. Born November 30th, 1933 in Almira, WA to Will and Florence Evans, he was the 4th of 5 boys. Lanny attended all 12 years of school in Almira and after graduating attended Central Washington State College in Ellensburg, WA where he met his wife of 59 years Marjorie Calvin. To this marriage was born three children Judy, Jana, and Larry Evans. Lanny lived in Almira his entire life where he served as the head bus mechanic and custodian for the Almira School District for over 38 years. Lanny also served his community as Mayor for approximately 16 years; and a part-time (summer) warehouseman for Centennial and later the Almira Farmers Warehouse for 40+ years. He was also a Boy Scout Leader for as many years along with volunteer fireman
and served on many boards including the chairman of the building committee for the Almira Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie, at the family home in Almira; daughters Judy (Evans) and David Lindhag of Almira; Jana Evans of Newman Lake; and son Larry Evans and Pamela of Arlington. Five grandchildren, Kandace and Jensen Evans; granddaughter Lani (Lindhag) and Thom Caraway and grandson DJ Lindhag and wife Katy; and granddaughter Jennifer (Nelson) and Bryce Mackin. Great-grandchildren include Emma and Samuel Caraway, Makyla and baby-to-be Lindhag; and step-great-grand children, Parker, Colin, and Lucas Mackin all of the Spokane area.
A special thank you to Lincoln Memorial Nursing Home and Hospital where Lanny received outstanding care for the past seven plus years.
