ANDERSON, Martin Edwin "Andy" (Age 84) Born May 14, 1929, in South Bend Indiana, to Martin Edward and Alta Mildred (Brandli) Anderson. Peacefully departed this life to return to his beloved wife Maurine on August 27, 2013 in Kent, Washington. He was raised in Warroad, Minnesota until 1943 when he and his mother moved to Spokane, Washington to rejoin his father; who was employed at the Hanford Works. Andy served in the Army-Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska during the Korean War
. He married Maurine in 1954 and together they raised their family in Spokane. Andy worked in the trucking business as a driver, a dispatcher, and an owner-operator. In 1974 they moved to Fairbanks during the construction of the Alaska pipeline, where he logged over a thousand round trips between Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay -- more than a million miles. They moved to Kent in 1987 where he lived for the rest of his life. Andy enjoyed playing cards (as long as he was winning), watching baseball, and getting the answer to Final Jeopardy before anyone else. But the thing he enjoyed most of all was to tell stories. He had a rich supply and he had a remarkable memory so he would include lots of detail. He loved to share his stories with anyone and everyone he met. He could also recall every federal, state and county highway and every street he had ever driven on, and would tell you the date; including the day of the week and the time of day it was when he drove there. He was sometimes gruff and irascible, but inside he was as gentle as a lamb. He was very generous to his children and to anyone he could help when he saw the need. He is survived by five of his six children: Darin (Lynn) Krogh and Diana (Paul) Chapman of Spokane; Mark (Cynthia Larsen) Anderson of Sacramento, CA; Paul (Sue) Anderson of Kent; and Eric (Nancy) Anderson of North Bend, WA, 17 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine (Steele) Anderson, and his youngest son, Alex Anderson. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the LDS Chapel at 26106 164th Ave SE, Covington, WA. This will be preceded by an inurnment service with Military Honors at Tahoma National Cemetery for both Andy and Maurine on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.
