Mary Philonese "Phil" Covington

COVINGTON, Mary Philonese "Phil" (Abrahamson)

Entered into rest Saturday June 11, 2011 in Grand Coulee Dam, WA. Born April 3, 1935 to Milo and Millie Abrahamson in Ford, WA.
A member of the Spokane Tribe, She was raised on the Reservation in Ford. She attended grade school in Ford and was a 1953 Graduate of Mary Walker High School in Springdale, She moved to Spokane and worked briefly as a nurses aide at Sacred Heart Hospital, prior to becoming an operator for Pacific Northwest Bell, where she worked until 1968. During this time, she met Emery Covington while attending various community/social events, whom she married at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral on July 15, 1961. The couple lived in Spokane, WA and Orofino, ID before settling in Elmer City, WA in 1969, where Emery worked during the construction of the Third Power Plant at Grand Coulee Dam. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Elmer City and surrounding communities, where she retired after 30-years of service in 2009. She enjoyed crocheting, weekly crossword puzzles, watching various television programs, such as; American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Tennis, Figure Skating and, of course, Gonzaga Basketball and Seattle Mariners Baseball! She thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Friends & Family and treasured the many relationships she was blessed with, in the community, she called "home." She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Godmother and Friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by Husband Emery in 1997 and a Baby Girl in 1962. Survivors include; Son Royce Covington, Daughters Lliane and Michelle Covington, Grandchildren Brianna Carson and Zachary (Kat) Covington, Brothers James, Thomas, Irvie and Melvin Abrahamson, Sisters Delores Smallwood and Linda Abrahamson, numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Godchildren and Friends.
Rosary will take place 7PM on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home at 5100 West Wellesley Ave., Spokane, WA 99205. Funeral Mass will take place 12PM on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Ford, WA with Burial following at Hubert Cemetery in Ford, WA.
