Lois Nelson began gathering her heavenly choir for rehearsal shortly after 6:30am on February 27, 2011, after succumbing to Leukemia. Born to Jack and Beatrice Lester on June 12, 1927, in Enumclaw, WA, she attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1945. She attended Pacific Lutheran College for one year.
Lois married Edward Nelson on Feb. 25, 1949, in Tacoma, WA. They met when she played violin in an orchestra he directed at Youth for Christ. They continued a life filled with music until the moment of her passing. Lois ministered to countless numbers through her music, whether it was playing the violin, singing with her family or directing numerous choirs, both young and old. Her heart's desire was to use her talent for God as long as she was physically able.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack, and mother, Beatrice. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Edward; her brother Donald Lester of Spanaway, WA; daughter Barbara Bowman of Olympia; son Mark (Linda) Nelson of Spokane; daughters Marla Nelson of Spokane Valley, Heidi (Steven) Rasmussen of Cheney, WA and Jill (Jim) Wallace of Spokane.
She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and even when communication was nearly impossible her face lit up when she saw them. She has 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She loved them all.
A time of music and celebration will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at First Assembly of God, 828 W. Indiana in Spokane, WA at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur St, Spokane, WA 99202.
