Mildred Alloway Obituary

ALLOWAY,
Mildred Maxine
(Age 74)

Maxine (Mildred) Alloway peacefully made her transition on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at around 7:00 PM, surrounded by family at her home of 31 years, in Spokane, WA. Maxine was born in Montana to Jesse and Mildred Smith and was one of seven children. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Alloway; two children, Gary Alloway and Alisa Gergawy; two step-children, Fred Alloway and Carol Miller; three grandchildren, Lauren Alloway, Brittany Alloway, and Mia Gergawy; and six siblings, Jim, Nola, Jean, Larry, Terry, and Zella. Maxine taught in both Idaho and Washington State in several different age groups but completed her over-25 year career in adult special education at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake, WA. She had a Masters in Education and was part of the all-but-dissertation club, completing all of the course work and much of the research required for her PhD in Special Education. Maxine loved nature and created a bird sanctuary in her backyard, as well as taking part in community attempts to save local wetlands. Maxine was also active in several groups; Lady Shriner (Past High Priestess), Daughters of the Nile (Past Queen), White Shrine (Past Worthy High Matron), Past President of the Masonic Temple Board, State and Local Parliamentarians, State and Local Retired Educators (Parliamentarian of the By Laws for Washington State) and Toastmasters. She was also very active at the Unity Church of Truth of Spokane, and was especially dedicated to her work in the Prayer Center. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend, and put her heart into everything she did. She will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard Street, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Shriner's Hospital, toll-free at (800) 241-GIFT (4438), or to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur, Spokane, WA 99202.
